New Grade 2 Teacher!!!

Sunway International School welcome's Mr. C-N!!

We are all very excited to welcome Mr. C-N to our Sunway family this week. Mr. C-N will be taking half of the grade two students this week to begin his new class. Parents can check their emails to reference which students will be moving to the new class.

As the student teacher ratio changes this brings even more opportunity for high level engagement in the classroom. Student success is our goal at SIS and this change will certainly benefit all learning for our terrific two's at SIS.

                                                     

Final Book Character dress up day

What a conclusion to our Spring into Reading month! Students showed up in full costume this Friday showing off their favorite characters. It was smiles all around in the morning as fresh faces showed up with some impressive costumes.

I would like to put out a special thank you to all the parents who helped out with their children during this month. A lot of effort was put in to each event to ensure the students were amazing and they were!!

Promoting reading is one of our goals at SIS and I can already see a general excitement surrounding literacy at school. The students are eager and excited to read and even more driven to improve.

Congrats students on a successful reading month!! Let’s keep up the positive attitudes :)

Maths Measurement unit has arrived!

Students had lots of fun with measurement this week. Beginning the unit, we explored non- standard units of measure with items right at our desks. Non-standard and standard units of measure will be explored throughout this unit.

It’s easy to record our measurements even at home. Be careful to choose the appropriate item to measure with and have fun measuring anything you find at home!! Report back and share when you come to class and we can discuss your results!! Great job students! :)

Beach Day :)

A cool 23 degrees for beach day in class last week. The students all showed up in classic beach attire. We saw shorts, flip flops, t-shirts, sunglasses, towels, and even beach toys and not forgetting our favorite books!

Raz-Kids is here!!

One of the worlds top leveled reading resources for students is here at SIS!. Our terrific two's will have full access to all of Raz-Kids online features.

Each student will have their own login and password giving them personal access to thousands of free online reading books and resources.

Most importantly, Raz-Kids literacy program is provided as a leveled reading resource where students can read at their own level while practicing at home to improve. Also, our leveled reading books we bring home every night match with Raz-Kids!. More selection of books while staying on track with our curriculum levels = awesome!!

Getting to the next level can be fun and with lots of different learning styles, students can enjoy online reading, listening, poetry, games, and many more exciting forms of literacy.

Baby chicken's in class??

Cluck, Cluck, Cluck

Baby chicks made an in class appearance last week during the conclusion of our "Life Cycles" unit.

Students did an amazing job creating the third stage of the chicken’s life cycle, the "baby chick" stage.

Everyone is born different, even little chicks!!

CRAZY Hat Day!!!

SIS' first annual Crazy Hat Day!!

As a part of our Spring Into Reading month the students had lots of fun showing off their crazy hats.

It was each student’s responsibility to choose one of our grade two sight words to post on their crazy hat. By the end of the day students were not only having fun with words but with their crazy hats too.

Shown in the pictures we had many creative hats for the day. The terrific twos are really enjoying the special events this month and are continuing to improve their reading skills everyday. Great job everyone!!

PAJAMA DAY!

Another successful day for our terrific two's last week!!

Students had so much fun dressed up as real kids in their fantastic pajamas! It was so cool to see all the different stuffed friends that came along for the day as well. 

Students had a great time talking all about their stuffed animals and writing about them too!

I am happy to report that a new student has joined our terrific two's this week. A warm welcome goes out to Chong Yiang Yang as he is already fitting in and making lots of new friends!!

The Math Fair!

What-a-success!!

Our very first Math fair at SIS was a complete success this past week. Putting their knowledge of surveying and data management to the test, the students hosted quite the afternoon of fun, games, and mathematics.

I am so proud of each and every student as smiles and positive attitudes filled the fair.

Our Terrific Twos played host to three separate classes during the fair, Mr. Dan's Grade 3 class, Miss. Crawford's Grade 1 class, and even Mr. Cusi's high school students.

Who said learning Math cant be fun!!!

Parent Teachers Interviews

Concluding our final PTI's this past Friday, I would like to extend a genuine thank you to all the parents that attended over the past two weeks. It was really nice to finally get a chance to meet all of you face to face and chat about your child's progress so far this year.

As I mentioned to all of you the students continue to come to class everyday with big smiles and excellent attitudes and that makes me very happy. A happy learning environment is a successful learning environment.

Dolch words to help improve!!!!

Hello Parents

Speaking with many of you this Friday we mentioned the focus on Grade 1,2,and 3 Dolch words or Sight Words. Like I said these specific words play a big role in building literacy skills in reading, writing, and speaking.

Below I have attached three links to Grade 1, Grade 2, and Grade 3, Dolch words. At the grade two level constant practice with all of these words is incredibly important.

Please take time to help your children become familiar with these words. This website also provides helpful creative writing activities that can help your child apply these words to their sentences, and stories, ect... ENJOY!!
